Every year, Scotland uses approximately 1 billion plastic bags. This is equivalent of 200 bags for every man, woman and child in Scotland. Many of these bags are not reused and eventually end up in landfill sites. Reusing the same shopping bag rather than accepting new bags every time you go shopping reduces the amount of bags you have to dispose of. A variety of reusable bags are available at shops in the Highland Council area including thicker plastic bags or Bag for Life, Cloth bags and Jute shopping bags.
