Bulky Uplift
Each local authority provides a service for uplifting bulky household items. Uplifts can be requested by telephone or at your local office, and may involve a charge. Some local authorities are able to Recycle or arrange for the Reuse of some of the items collected via their bulky uplift service. You may also be able to donate your unwanted items to community groups in your area to be Reused by others.

Aberdeen City

Special Uplift of up to four Household Items includes a collection charge of £20

Aberdeenshire

The Aberdeenshire Council operates a Bulky Uplift service for residents to dispose of larger or bulky waste items. The charge for this service varies, depending upon the items to be collected. Typical items uplifted include sofas and other furniture, white goods, etc. For information on prices visit the Special Uplifts and Charges page on the Aberdeenshire Council website.

Alternatively you could take the materials to a Household Waste & Recycling Centre, free of charge. Locate your nearest recycling centre using the Recycling facility search.

Angus

Angus Council will charge a fee of £16 for up to three items and £32 for up to six items for the bulky uplift service. Bags of waste following a clearout can also be uplifted. Inspectors can make home visits to provide quotes. You can make the payment pre-uplift either over the phone or by cash or cheque at your local ACCESS office.

The Argyll & Bute Council will charge £26.40 for the first ten minutes, and £5 per ten minutes thereafter. Collections are arranged through the area offices.

Clackmannanshire

You can use the Bulky Uplift service in Clackmannanshire for the removal of household waste that is too big to fit in your bin. Examples of the type of waste includes domestic appliances and old furniture. For more information on this service, please visit the Bulky Uplift section on the Clackmannanshire Council website.

Dumfries and Galloway

If you have a larger item which you wish to dispose of, which will not fit in your household bin, you can arrange a bulky uplift (charges apply). The Council provides a bulky uplift service for large household items such as old and unusable furniture including sofas, tables, beds, garage doors, bicycles and mattresses.

A charge will be administered according to the volume of waste being presented for collection:

  • There will be a minimum £10.50 charge for all requests for bulky uplifts of up to 3 items
  • Up to 10 black bags of waste can be uplifted for £10.50.
  • Alternatively, Council refuse sacks can be purchased at a cost of £0.50p each and left out for collection on regular collection day.
  • Plastic or ceramic bathroom suites (bath, wc and basin) can be uplifted for £30.00.
  • Individual bathroom items such as toilets and wash hand basins or a plastic bath can be uplifted for £10.50 per item.
  • Items such as a piano will require a visit to determine the cost of uplift.
  • For commercial requests, there will be a minimum £10.50 per item charge levied for items including domestic size appliances for bulky uplifts of up to 3 items.

    Top Tips

    • Please place items on the kerbside by 7.30am on the day the collection has been arranged.
    • The Council will try to collect your items within 5 working days from the day you make the arrangement.
    • Alternatively, householders can take large white goods and bulky items to your local
    Household Waste Recycling Centres
    • If you are buying new electrical items, use your retailers take back services if available to dispose of your old items.
